On the ground in Appin

Appin is an old sandstone village with rural blocks on every side.

Appin had about 3,200 people at the 2021 census. Appin Road is the main street, with the former courthouse and gaol from the 1860s and St Bede's church from the 1830s, so thick sandstone walls are part of the job. The village sits between Campbelltown and the coast, and has a history of mining at Appin Colliery and of water supply, with the Macarthur Water Treatment Plant completed in 1995.

Wollondilly is a mix of fixed line, fixed wireless, satellite and mobile broadband, and council hears regularly about poor internet. Around the village centre a fixed line is common. Out on the rural blocks along Appin Road and towards the Nepean, fixed wireless and Starlink are more usual, so the first step is looking at what is actually available at your address.

A lot of the people here run trades, small farms or home businesses and need the connection to stay up. We build a proper UniFi network, keep guest and business traffic separate, and watch it remotely. Better Net is based in Wilton, a short drive down the highway, and I pick up the phone.
